Avalanche warning for region Heiane Friday 15.05.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Predominantly stable conditions, but be aware in steep lee areas in higher elevations, small dry wind slabs are possible to release. Be careful close to and in terrain traps. If/when the sun comes out, the danger will rise to 2-moderate also in areas where the snow becomes wet and soft.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

New snow (loose snow avalanches)

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 14. May 2020

Mountain weather

Thursday 14. May 2020

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from west. -8 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 15. May 2020

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Fortsatt litt nedbør og økende vind vil gi ferske flakdannelser over tregrensen.
