Avalanche warning for region Heiane Wednesday 01.04.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The danger increases when the wind picks up. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Naturally realeased wet avalanches likely below the new snow line.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Glide avalanches

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 31. March 2020

Snøoverflata ber preg av mildvêret førre veke. På toppane er det avlåst og hard skare, litt lågare er det tynne skarelag og grovkorna snø.

Lite snø i låglandet, men framleis mykje snø i høgda. Samanhengjande skiføre frå omlag 600 moh.

Det er observert glideskred fleire stadar i regionen.

Observasjonar frå Hunnedalen tirsdag fortel om at høge temperaturar er gunstig for stabilisering av fokksnøflak.

Mountain weather

Tuesday 31. March 2020

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from west, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during renoon. -8 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 1. April 2020

18 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -4 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
