Avalanche warning for region Heiane Monday 17.02.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
In the high mountains, heavy snowfall and strong wind will cause unstable storm slabs. The snow pack is considerably wet in the lower areas due to high temperatures and heavy rain. The wet snow is in general stable, but loose snow avalanches may be triggered in some exposed slopes.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 16. February 2020

Lengre nord omlag 25 mm.

Mountain weather

Sunday 16. February 2020

25 mm precipitation, up to 45 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest. -4 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 17. February 2020

40 mm precipitation, up to 65 mm in the most exposed areas. Gale from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the evening. -3 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
