Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Sunday 31.01.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in and close to terrain traps and on steep slopes until the new snow has stabilized. Be aware that persistent weak layers can be hidden in the snow pack.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 30. January 2021

Mountain weather

Saturday 30. January 2021

6-10 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from northwest. -16 °C to -9 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 31. January 2021

3-6 mm precipitation. Breeze from northwest. -14 °C to -9 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
