Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Friday 14.02.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
It's stable conditions in general, but several persistent weak layers exist in the snow pack. They are hard to trigger in most places, but be careful where the snow cover is thin.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow above a crust

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 13. February 2020

Mountain weather

Thursday 13. February 2020

Little to no precipitation. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the west during the afternoon. -12 °C to -7 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 14. February 2020

1-3 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -15 °C to -9 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
