Avalanche warning for region Voss Sunday 23.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Use great caution on recently loaded slopes in the high alpine. Large avalanches could be triggered. Expect a wet snowpack below treeline.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 22. January 2022

Mountain weather

Saturday 22. January 2022

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from southwest. -1 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 23. January 2022

6 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1400 m a.s.l during renoon. Breeze from west, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the evening. -1 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skredfaren vil nå være over mildværsgrensen. Kraftig vind vil fortsette å gjøre områder med fersk fokksnø ustabil. Store lokale variasjoner i nedbørsmengdene ventes.

Snødekket under mildværsgrensen vil raskt stabilisere seg og vil mange steder være gjennomfuktet.
