Avalanche warning for region Voss Saturday 23.05.2020

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Glide avalanches

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Det meste av snødekket har no fått varme og framstår som grovkorna, men noko mindre omdanna i skyggesider i høgda. Nokre stader skare. Snøgrensa ligg på 500-700 moh. Det er mykje snø i regionen og det er store skavlar mot nord og aust.

Saturday 23. May 2020

8 mm precipitation, up to 16 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from south. 1 °C to 7 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Varme på dagtid, fråvær av nattefrost og noko regn, vil auke sig og vassmetting i snødekket. Dette gir tilhøve for våte skred. Størst sjanse på ettermiddag og kveld.

Kaldare netter kjøler ned øvre del av snødekket, men tjukt snødekke kan fortsatt ha sig og høg vassmetting også om natta og kan lausne som glideskred. Typisk ved sigesprekker.

Det er mykje og store skavlar i fjellet, desse får no varme og kan knekke og dra med seg snø i henga under.
