Avalanche warning for region Voss Monday 24.02.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger there.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 23. February 2020

Mountain weather

Sunday 23. February 2020

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to fresh breeze from the west during renoon. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 24. February 2020

6-10 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the east during the evening. -7 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Litt ny nedbør vil legge opp små ferske fokksnøflak i typiske leområder i alle himmelretningar
