Avalanche warning for region Voss Thursday 09.05.2019

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Favorable conditions. At higher altitudes in the alpine, it might be easy to trigger small avalanches in the fresh storm slabs. Otherwise rain and mild temperaturer might lead to one or two small, wet avalanche.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 8. May 2019

Det har vært høye temperatur i fjellet og mye avsmelting siden før påske. Kaldere værtype og noe nysnø siste dager. Snødekket består nå av igjenfrosne smelteformer med noe nysnø fra siste dager over. En må stort sett over ca 800 meter for å finne skiføre. Der hvor nysnøen legger seg på bar bakke smelter den fort.

Mountain weather

Wednesday 8. May 2019

Little to no precipitation. Calm/light breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the evening. -7 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Thursday 9. May 2019

4-6 mm precipitation. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -4 °C to 4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
