Avalanche warning for region Sør-Trøndelag Wednesday 19.01.2022

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Big wet natural avalanches are expected as long as it's high temperatures. Avoid avalanche release and run out areas. The danger for dry avalanches are expected to increase throughout the day.

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Wednesday 19. January 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l Wednesday night. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to gale from the northwest during the afternoon. -10 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skredfaren går noe ned utover dagen med minkende vind, avtagende nedbør og synkende temperatur. Men tidlig på dagen kan det fortsatt løsne skred naturlig, både våte flakskred under mildværsgrensa og tørre skred høyere til fjells.

Over mildværsgrensa vil det ha bygget seg opp store, ustabile fokksnøflak i leheng. Disse vil det være lett for en skiløper å løse ut, særlig der flakene er myke og/eller tynne.
