Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Monday 17.02.2020

The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

You can very easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Det kom om lag 50 cm snø sist veke. Mykje vind laurdag har gitt både harde fokksnøflak, skavlar og avblåste ryggar. Kortvarig mildvêr over 1000 moh natt til søndag har fukta den lause snøen som låg under skoggrensa. Under den siste snøen er det gamle snødekket smelteomdanna høgt til fjells. Det er skiføre frå omlag 200 moh.

I fjellet finst det kantkorna snø djupt i det gamle snødekket, men det påverkar ikkje skredproblema.

Søndag bles det mykje i høgda og på Roaldshornet i Stranda (1000 moh) bles til liten storm med temperatur på +1 natt til søndag.

15 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the evening. -7 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nedbør og vind er venta å gje stor pålagring i heng som ligg i le for vinden. Fokksnøflak blir hovedskredproblemet og desse kan lett påverkast av ein skikøyrar. Sjølv om det blir litt kaldare er det framleis gunstig temperatur slik at fokksnøen stabiliserer raskt. Under mildvêrsgrensa kan våte skred løysast ut, men etter fleire dagar med regn er det venta mindre aktivitet.

Ver merksam på at skavlar er store og kan vere ustabile etter mykje snø og vind dei siste dagane.
