Weather change! Natural avalanches expected due to temperature rise and rain. Fresh wind slabs are the problem in the mountains. Avoid avalanche terrain.

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snødekket preges av svært varierende og mye vær. Kraftig vind og snø har har lagt mye fokksnø i N-Ø-vendt terreng og formasjoner som samler snø. Rygger og vindutsatt terreng er avblåst i høyden. Det er mest snø i N-Ø-vendt terreng.

Vedvarende svake lag av kantkorn er dekket av bærende lag også på de høyeste toppene, det er derfor trolig lite aktuelle som skredproblem.

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to gale from the southwest during the evening. -8 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 20. January 2020

25 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest. -3 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nedbør i kombinasjon med mildvær vil trolig føre til våte naturlige skred.
Høyt til fjells, der nedbøren kommer som snø vil det være lett å løse ut skred i fersk fokksnø.
Det er lokale forskjeller på hvor mye snø det ligger i terrenget, og hvor mye nysnø og regn som kommer. Derfor vil også skredfaren variere i regionen.
