Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Monday 24.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Rapid forming wind slabs are expected. Large naturally released avalanches are possible. Use great caution in the alpine. Decreasing snow line.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 23. January 2022

Mountain weather

Monday 24. January 2022

18-22 mm precipitation. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l Monday night. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the west during the afternoon. -8 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
