Avalanche warning for region Salten Saturday 16.03.2019

Strong winds have formed wind slabs onto of the persistent weak layer of facets. Avalanches are easy to trigger and can be triggered remotely. Avoid all steep terrain and runout zones.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Tirsdag kveld og onsdag dannet kraftig vind fokksnøflak flere steder.

På de mest vindutsatte stedene er det avblåst til mildværsskaren fra februar.

Mellom fokksnøen og skaren fra februar har det utviklet seg et svakt lag av kantkorn mange steder. Laget går lett til brudd og forplantes over store avstander.

Lengre ned i snødekket ligger det en solid såle av smelteformer. I øvre deler av den gamle smeltepakka har det utviklet kantkorn, men svakhetene er avlåst av skarelag over.

Tirsdag kveld og onsdag ettermidag er det løst ut flere mindre skred av skiløpere.

Avalanche risk assessment

Lagene med fokksnøflak over kantkornlag vil fortsatt være lett å løse ut og skredene kan bli store i noen områder. Problemet vil trolig vedvare en god stund fremover.

Vær svært konservativ i valg av turer og hold god avstand til bratt terreng.
