Avalanche warning for region Salten Monday 14.01.2019

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
UPDATED MONDAY MORNING. Avoid recently loaded slopes in the alpine. The persistent weak layer is still present above treeline. The old snowpack are mostly melt forms and stable below treeline. Recent storm snow is not bonding well to the surface crust.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between crust and overlying snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 14. January 2019

Mountain weather

Sunday 13. January 2019

3 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from west, changing to breeze from the southeast during the evening. -16 °C to -10 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 14. January 2019

3 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Breeze from southeast, changing to moderate gale from the northwest during the afternoon. -17 °C to -11 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
