Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Sunday 29.01.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Large amounts of rain will weaken the snowpack considerably. Keep good distance to avalanche terrain and run out zones for wet avalanches.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 28. January 2023

Man må over 1000 moh for å finne lagdelinger i gammelt snødekket.

Mountain weather

20 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l Saturday night. Moderate gale from west. -7 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 29. January 2023

45 mm precipitation, up to 60 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from west, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Her vil skred kunne løsne naturlig. Middels store skred er mest aktuelt.

Over mildværsgrensen vil mye ny snø i kombinasjon med kraftig vind gi ustabile fokksnøflak. Her vil skred kunne løsne naturlig.
