Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Wednesday 19.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Naturally released large avalanches is expected due to unstable storm slabs in the alpine. Naturally released wet avalanches possible during nighttime and early morning. Wet avalanche activity will diminish as the temperature drop through the day.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Snøoverflaten består av fokksnø med varierende hardhet, i vindutsatt terreng er det avblåst til bakken eller skare. I skjermet terreng kan det finnes løs snø. Det gamle snødekket antas stabilt etter "Gyda" og gjenfrysing, unntatt i de høyestliggende områdene.

Det er lørdag observert kantkornlag under oppbygging over skaren fra Gyda.

Mandag morgen 25 cm nysnø på Bjorli, som ligger tett på grensen til regionen.

30 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l Wednesday night. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to gale from the northwest during the afternoon. -13 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Over mildværsgrensen vil mye nysnø og kraftig vind av skiftende retning danne ferske fokksnøflak i leområder. Skred kan løsne naturlig, og i enkelte heng kan de bli store. Synkende nysnøgrense utover dagen.

Natt til onsdag vil regn og mildvær gi fare for naturlig utløste våte skred under mildværsgrensen. Faren for våte skred avtar i takt med synkende temperatur fra onsdag morgen.
