Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Saturday 27.03.2021

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions, but be careful in steep terrain, especially where wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

New snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 26. March 2021

Mountain weather

Friday 26. March 2021

2 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from south. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 27. March 2021

1-5 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from south, changing to breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
