Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Tuesday 25.01.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Difficult conditions. There is a persistent weak layer buried in the snow pack. Be careful in areas with wind deposited snow.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Monday 24. January 2022

Søndag kveld gikk svært stort skred over E6 ved Vassbergan/Falsnes.

Mountain weather

Monday 24. January 2022

12 mm precipitation, up to 22 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l Monday night. Strong gale from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during renoon. -11 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Tuesday 25. January 2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from west, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the evening. -12 °C to -7 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
