Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Sunday 24.03.2019

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Published:
Heavy snowfall is expected in the western part of the region. Stay away from all avalanche terrain as a skier. Some roads might be vulnerable. The avalanche danger decreases during the day.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 23. March 2019

Mountain weather

Saturday 23. March 2019

20 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to gale from the west during the afternoon. -7 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 24. March 2019

25 mm precipitation, up to 45 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from west, changing to breeze from the northwest during the evening. -7 °C to -4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
