Avalanche warning for region Hardanger Tuesday 12.03.2019

Be careful in areas with fresh windloaded snow. Avoid lee areas where a persistent weak layer can be hidden in the snow pack. Avalanches are triggered most easily where the snow pack is thin, typically close to ridges and on convex formations.

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Snøoverflaten er preget av kraftig vind fra N på fredag etterfulgt av litt nysnø ved lite vind lørdag og søndag. Noen steder ligger det 20-30 cm nysnø på overflaten. Generelt har bindingene i nysnø og fokksnø vært gode.

Det gamle snødekket er smelteomvandlet og gjenfrosset etter kraftig mildvær til fjelltopphøgde i slutten av februar.

I løpet av søndag har det gått mange str. 1 løssnøskred i sola.

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the southeast during the evening. -17 °C to -8 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Tuesday 12. March 2019

15 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to gale from the southeast during renoon. -13 °C to -6 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nysnø og at vinden både øker og dreier gir snøtransport inn i nordvestvendte fjellsider. Dette gir oss skredproblemer av fokksnøflak.

Det varierer hvor mye snø som er tilgjengelig i terrenget, men nysnøen i seg selv kan være nok til at størrelse 2 (middels) store skred kan løses ut naturlig eller av en skiløper i mange heng.

Skredfaren øker til 3-betydelig i regionen.
